Talks? Why?

To use the knowledge that I have built up over the years and to help other life long learners. It gets me out of my home to meet others and get a feeling of self-worth.

How do I pick my talks?

They are mainly based on the different history topics I taught over the last 20 years of teaching. I am not an expert but as the topics changed there was always a need to research and learn. I have travelled thousands of miles, read hundreds of books, visited historical sites/places, watched documentaries and sought out information from experts. The learning rolls on!

What is my favourite talk?

My first talk was on The Oregon Trail… the topic is still my favourite. As a topic I used it as a week-long history project with over 100 pupil and 7 staff and Teaching Assistants. It became a role play event that got the pupils away from text books and learning by rote. My research led to travel the Oregon Trail… It’s 2500 miles long from Missouri to Oregon… It is a living entity and a fantastic experience.

You’re never too old to stop learning.
